Raising hdl cholesterol...

Question And Answer Category: Cholesterol

Question:

Dear BlankHelp Team,

I've been told by doctor to raise my HDL levels. She told me to start exercising, and she cleared me to go at my own pace.

Not that I'm lazy, just that if I like exercising, and had time to exercise as much as she suggested, I would have been exercising already.

So, other than exercising, how do I go about raising hdl cholesterol?

thx,

jill

Our Advice and Answer:

Dear Jill,

We are glad you are working with your doctor to raise your HDL cholesterol. HDL, High Density Lipoprotein, is what is considered "good cholesterol". So we understand why your doctor wants you to raise your hdl cholesterol.

As far as we know, your doctor is correct, exercise is your only natural choice in raising your HDL cholesterol. There are other options, but since you were cleared by your doctor for exercise, and she didn' prescribe any cholesterol medications, that is what she wants.

Remember the advice you received from your doctor, you are 'cleared' for exercising at your own pace. We can only add, is "YOUR PACE". Typically a person new to exercise will try to team up with someone more experienced, and push themselves too hard trying to "keep up". Exercise is a life-long commitment to control you cholesterol, and you health in general. So take it easy, and move at your own pace.

Good luck, and remember to work closely with your doctor, she's your partner to getting to be healthier.

The BlankHelp Team.
