Our Advice and Answer: |
Hello Nick,
Yes, toilet tank condensation can be irritating, and the potential for water collection can be dangerous. No need to let your floor deteriorate, or have a slip and fall accident.
Well you can directly attack toilet tank condensation, and indirectly attack toilet tank condensation.
Indirectly: Your house could be too humid. Check your relative humidity, and correct as necessary. If there is too much moisture in the air, the cool tank could be a prime place for toilet tank condensation.
Directly:
1. Insulate the outside of the tank with a toilet cossey. This can help minimize the warm air condensing on the cool toilet tank. 2. Insulate the inside. Their are kits where you can install a sheets of styrofoam on the inside of the tank. This way you don't have to have something visible like a toilet cozy, and you still isolate the warm air from the cool tank. 3. Warm the tank. This is done by having a mixing valve installed and this valve will admit a small amount of hot water into the fill water. This way the tank is warmed up so there is no toilet tank condensation.
Now the mixing valve might not be a Do It Yourself project, and like all projects that you are uncomfortable to do, get a professional. Good luck on addressing your toilet tank condensation problems, and tell us what worked.
