Free fax by email services any good?

Question And Answer Category: Faxing

Question:

Dear Blankhelp Team,

I don't have a fax machine, and wondered if one of those free fax by email services would be good for me. I don't have much start-up money, but I suspect that I will be needing a faxing service. Can you recommend a good email faxing service?

thank you,

Our Advice and Answer:

Hello "Faxing Newbie",

Caveat Emptor, Latin for "Buyer Beware". Not beating up free fax by email services, but it is important to remember something as you move forward in your business career. You often don't by something, this case a fax service, for features but for reliability. If you think you will need a faxing service, then you need a 'reliable' faxing service. You often get what you paid for.

We recommend to things:

1. Get a fax machine. Many fax machines are cheap enough to be reachable by many small businesses, and even non-business uses. You can often find sales on smaller models at your local office supply chains. Keep an eye out for one. Once you have one, a reliable fax, then as your needs expand, you can expand on the features of your next fax machine. As for right now, we are guessing all you need it to send and receive faxes. A 20 dollar model should accomplish this.

2. A paid fax by email service. Now we haven't used these ourselves, but the concept seems very easy, you can receive faxes sent to you via email. A phone number is assigned to you, and when someone faxes something to that phone number, you receive an email with a copy of the fax. Services like this is offered by free fax by email companies, but once again, reliability is your focus. One disadvantage of this, is sending faxes. If you have a hard copy, say a piece of paper signed, to fax it you must scan it into your computer to send it. Now if you have a scanner, you might as well get a fax machine.

So our suggestion is, skip the free fax by email systems, and get yourself a cheap entry level fax machine.

Wish we could be better help than this, but we can only share with your our option.
