| Hello "Smoke Detector Test Newbie", Yes in school we were all taught to test smoke detectors monthly, and information today is the same from many fire prevention organizations. However, many manufactures state right on their smoke detectors to test weekly. We suggest that you follow this advice, test smoke detectors monthly or per manufacturers instruction, which ever is sooner. For a quick couple of seconds, you can identify whether your smoke detectors are functional and life savers.
