Dell Laptop CPU Fan Runs All The Time.

Question And Answer Category: Computer Hardware

Question:

Dear Blankhelp team,

I have a Dell laptop, and the CPU fan runs all the time. It is out of warranty, and I'm concerned I have a problem with the laptop. I did run the diagnostic software you can download from Dell, and nothing came up wrong. I love Dell, and their products, so I feel this laptop top can last for years more. What can I do to check what is wrong with my Laptop's CPU fan?

thanks,

Dell Fan

Our Advice and Answer:

Dear "Dell Fan",

We have a team member that has a Dell Inspiron Laptop. He loves it, and feels sorry that after years of good service, he uses it less now then over 5 years ago. Yes it's a 5 year old laptop, and still running strong. Beat up looking, but Dell does do some quality work in picking out components for their computers, especially their laptops. Well he had a time when his fan would cycle continuously, and then the CPU fan would run all the time. It appears after learning to live with it, and comfortable that Dell's diagnostic software found nothing wrong, he figured out what was wrong. He downloaded some software from Google, that ran a program in the background, to research some medicine. It appears that running the CPU 1005 load will sometimes have the CPU fan running all the time, based on where he was(inside verses outside). Check your task manager(if you are running a Windows Operating System) and find if you have a 100% load on your computer's CPU, and then figure out why. Hopefully it's something that you intended on installing.

Good luck with your investigation, and fill us in on what happened with your laptop.
