Our Advice and Answer:

Dear Mary,

Checking around, we have some experience with baby car seat covers, and the final answer is.... none. We cannot recommend any baby seat cover product, since none seem to have made any of us very happy.

These are the problems we came across with baby seat covers:

1. They are folded to save space, and because many are ridge, made of plastic, they do not unfold easily. One hand operation is a minimum for a person loading and unloading a baby. No need to have more complex things to take care of, with a baby. :)

2. They are typically too big. The one-size-fits all means that manufactures make baby seat covers over-sized. This means that 2 secs after you finally get it on, it will slide and fall off.

3. Another added expense. Face it, you have a baby, you need to multitask, and anything you buy should have many different uses to be valuable.

Our suggestion, a blanket. The blanket can be tossed over the seat, provide backup warmth for normal and emergency situations, and many times we've used them to pad items. Plus, with a blanket you can cover more than just the baby seat.

Tip: Don't just get any blanket, try out an Army/Navy Surplus store for a wool blanket. Sure it's itchy, but this blanket would only go over a person who is fully clothed. Plus, wool is tough, works well wet, and offers nonflammable properties.

So good luck, wish it was easy to pick out a baby seat cover, but we suggest you don't. Get a good blanket.

Sincerely,

The BlankHelp Team
