Our Advice and Answer:

Hello Crab Grass Nut,

Many crab grass control products work by creating a barrier on the soil to prevent the germination of seeds. Since crab grass is an annual weed, last year's growth dies over winter, and the seeds sprout in the spring. Well we have to say, yes about your crab grass control product not working, but good news is it was till now.

The north eastern parts of the US has seen "POUNDING" rain. It isn't the amount of rain, but how we have been receiving it. The aggressive, massive amounts of water in a short period seems to have washed away the protection we once had.

Many of the lawns for the BlankHelp Team members are crab grass filled, and we've been thinking about how to combat crab grass. Consensus is not to use another pre-emergence crab grass control product. It is too close to the end of the year, when reseeding your lawn is most beneficial. The crab grass control can prevent regular grass from germinating, so it is a no-no for us. Try to feed your yard with a good fertilizer, maybe even a weed-killer type. This might thicken up your yard, and help prevent other crab grass from taking root. Then try and treat crab grass with a spray killer. Crab Grass Killers typically take more than one treatment, since they are watered down not to kill regular grass. So patience and repeat use are your friends.

We wish you good luck, and next year, we plan on using the crab grass preventer in the spring as instructed, and then a second time, timed such that it will not effect the fall reseeding. This way we can try and make it through a summer without watching our intended grass die.

Good luck,

The BlankHelp Team
