how to get rid of spyware on your computer?

Question And Answer Category: Spyware

Question:

Help BlankHelp Team!!!!

I seem to have more and spyware pop ups on my PC. Even when I'm not browsing the web, my Internet Explorer opens up to some travel site, or poker site. Is this some spyware poker bug?

I don't visit bad sites, but I seem to still get pop ups. I'm only guessing it's spyware, since my coworkers tell me it is, but I still hope that you can help.

So, how do I get rid of spyware on my computer?

Thanks,

Our Advice and Answer:

Hello Spyware Assassin,

Or should we say Spyware Assassin in Training. ;)

So, how to get rid of spyware on your computer?

First way to get rid of spyware is to stop allowing an already infected computer to operate without a good anti-spyware program. So, here are a few anti-spyware programs, many are free anti-spyware programs for personal use:

Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot-S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org

Second, a little secret, many times computers are 'infected' with viruses or Trojans that install spyware and adware programs. So you need a real anti-virus program, here are some we liked, some are free anti-virus programs for personal use:

AVG - http://www.grisoft.com
Panda Antivirus - http://www.pandasecurity.com

Third, since Microsoft Windows Operating Systems are so common, they are most likely to be attacked by malicious software programmers. So you need to make sure your Windows Operating System is up to date. Frequently check for "Windows Update" from Internet Explorer, or better yet, turn on auto updates.

Fourth, spyware and adware programs, update to stay ahead of antispyware programs, so try to get a firewall in place that not only block outside traffic from getting to your personal computer, get a firewall that blocks outward traffic, without your permission. Here is a list some personal computer firewalls, and some are free firewalls for personal use:

ZoneAlarm - http://www.zonelabs.com
Panda Antivirus (versions have included firewall) - http://www.pandasecurity.com

Not all obvious steps to prevent and eliminate a spyware infection, work, but you can get as close to 100% by trying our steps. Remember, once clean, the best solution for spyware and adware, is to not get reinfected. Keep your antivirus, and antispyware programs up to date, as well as your computer's operating system.

Good luck,

The BlankHelp Team
