Too many credit card offers!

Question And Answer Category: Anger Management

Question:

Dear BlankHelp Team,

I get credit card offers all the time. Each one claims to be the best credit card offer, but I know each one is the same, just a road to personal debt and financial destruction.

I know if I call each credit reporting agency, or one of those toll free numbers, I can eliminate getting the offers, but I want to do more.

These credit card offers pose a risk for all of us, get one stolen, and blammo, you have identity theft. How can I fight back? Can I cost credit card companies?

Thanks, I really hate too many free credit card offers.

Enraged!

Our Advice and Answer:

Dear Enraged,

Well our first response in seeing your question's, subject "Too many credit card offers!", we thought this was a simple 1-2 answers. Yes you are right, you can contact the major credit reporting agencies to opt out of those free credit card offers. The toll-free number you mention is, 1-888-5OPTOUT.

However, you question is more difficult. We don't know how you can wage your war against companies that mass produce the latest, "Best Credit Card Offers". We do have one suggestion, and from those who tell it to us, they feel a sense of real personal satisfaction.

1. Open your latest best credit card offer.
2. Remove the prepaid return envelope.
3. Remove and destroy anything that contains personal information.
4. Stuff remain papers into the prepaid return envelope. (this includes the original envelope)
5. Mail the whole thing back.

This tells credit card companies that you don't want their junk credit card offers. This also causes a loss on that credit card offer they mailed you, by them paying for the return mailing.

Note, this does not work unless they send you a prepaid envelope. Anything else, you will have to pay for the mailing yourself.

Oh, we've seen warnings about tampering with the credit card envelopes is against the law, if you read the warning, they are repeating the fact that tampering with US Mail is against the law. They sent the offers to you, you are simply returning it.

Good luck, but as we said, we are just repeating what has been told to us from other people who hate credit card offers in the mail. You might want to seek anger management help first. Good luck.

Sincerely,

The BlankHelp Team
