Our Advice and Answer: |
Dear Jill,
We are glad to hear you want to lose weight, and you are curious about both losing weight and maintaining your energy levels. Good for you. First, before proceeding with any weight loss, or health changing system, you need to talk to your health care provider.
Now for your question, many times that we restrict our calorie intake ("dieting"), we are shock our bodies into thinking it's time of famine. Which causes our body to conserve energy, and even do bad things. Example, if it's time for famine, then you don't need lean body mass to chase down food, or work hard, so the body starts canibalizing the proteins in the muscles. So by dieting, you are actually reducing your lean body mass while maintaining your fat mass. You are getting fatter by increasing your body fat percentage. So how do people lose fat and maintaining lean body mass?
EXERCISE!
Yup, in fact from our experiences, don't diet. At least not at first. Keep your normal calorie intake, just get rid of the junk food, and get into exercising. You'll feel better in a short while. Once you feel better slowly reduce your calorie intake to that of a normal person. By becoming active, eating right, and eating a normal calorie intake you should stop the fat building process, in fact if you maintain an above average activity level, with an average food intake, you should slowly reduce your fat percentage.
Another high energy weight loss tip, what you do to lose weight you will need to keep doing to keep it off. So in our experiences, we've explained here, Frequent exercising, eating good foods, keeping your calorie intake to normal levels for your activity lifestyle should keep you maintaining you normal, desired, weight.
We hope this helps, and wish you good luck on your weight loss.
