Mosquito Magnet Trap Maintenance and Home Depot

Question And Answer Category: Gardening

Question:

Dear BlankHelp Team,

I own a Mosquito Magnet Defender, I love the product and think if you do a Mosquito Magnet review you would too.

My question is this, having a Mosquito Magnet means you have to do regular maintenance on it. Every Propane cylinder change you should change the Mosquito Magnet's octenol capsule, and every other propane cylinder change, you need to purge the machine with CO2. Well, I've been going to Home Depot for all my Mosquito Magnet Supplies. Not saying it cost much, but the CO2 cartridges I use to purge the unit, have gone up in price again. Instead of 9 bucks for 3 little CO2 cartridges, it is now almost 10 bucks. Now 3 CO2's should make me happy for almost three months, but my Mosquito Magnet has developed the habit of needing more than one of those CO2 cartridges, so now every 3 weeks I pay 15 bucks for a new propane bottle, a new octenol pack, and two CO2's (almost 7 bucks).

Is there a cheaper way to keep my unit going, and keep its operating costs down?

Thanks, not venting, I love my Mosquito Magnet Defender, just want to love it more!

Our Advice and Answer:

Dear Bite-Free,

We want to share this good news(at least for us) with you, our team does have and use a Great Mosquito Magnet! We love it!

OK, now that we've Mosquito Magnet bonded, let's get back to your question. As for reducing the overall cost of maintenance, we were put off by those little CO2 quick-clear cartridges you buy at big package stores. Especially on bad days when you need 2 or 3 of them to get the Mosquito Magnet running again. So far to save money, we took of of those CO2 cartridges, and the purge adaptor, to our local bike shop and found for a few cents less, we could be using a 16 gram CO2 cartridge instead of what we figure is a 8 gram CO2 cartridge. It seems that a company called, Innovations makes a whole line of CO2 bike inflation tools, and their threaded 16 gram CO2 fit our purge adaptor. So for the cost of one cartridge, we have the size of two. So common sense says we are getting more for our money, and we said bye-bye to those days where we need to purge more than once.

Now this is what we do, like working with any compressed gases, you need to follow common sense, manufactures instructions, and wear safety equipment. We strongly felt that using Innovations CO2 cartridge didn't violate any manufactures warranties, since we found that Lowe's sells Innovations 8 gram CO2 quick-clear cartridges for Mosquito Magnet Maintenance.

Hope sharing our story about getting more for our money, and keeping our Mosquito Magnet happy, which keeps us happy, will help you.
